The Birth

We couldn't have asked for things to go more smoothly for the birth of our second little angle, Brooklyn Merry.  Though the weeks leading up to the birth were very stressful and emotional I think the timing was perfect.

The birth in a nutshell:

Friday, April 15. 2011.
9:00am - Show up to the hospital.
11:00am - I'm dilated to almost a 5. Dr. Bradford broke my water.
12:00pm -Nothing - maybe a mild contraction every twenty minutes or so.
1:00pm - Chatted with Dr. Bradford in the hall for a half hour trying to kill time while still more of nothing happened.
1:30pm  - Ended our conversation with the doctor and something started to happen!  I started having some stronger contractions.
2:00pm - Jaret and the nurses and I chatted.  Contractions where so strong that everyone in the room had to be silent until they subsided so that I could concentrate on the first song that popped in my head.  It is pretty funny to look back and see everything fall silent during a contraction then pick right back up.  Of all the places I could go "Jolly Holiday" was what popped into my head.  Huh?  I can't remember the last time I saw Mary Poppins.
2:50pm - Dr. Bradford walks in and sees that there is progress.  I'm dilated to a 9.5.  He gets his nurse Emily and starts getting ready to catch the kid.
2:55pm - I tell the doc that I have to push.  He rushes to finish getting ready and says to try and wait.  Yeah right.  It's like throwing up.  How do you "wait".
3:03pm - Two contractions later Brooklyn is born.  Crowning hurt.

Dr. Bradford had me pull Brooklyn up onto my tummy.  I was still hurting and had trouble embracing the moment but the pain gradually subsided and I realized how lucky I was to have a healthy little girl and that I really did feel great.  The best part...no tearing!!!  I love not tearing and recommend it to anyone!

Brooklyn has been such a little angle and sleeper.  She's a blessing in our lives and we love our new addition to our family.  We're the luckiest parents in the world because we have been blessed with two of God's finest children.  I still don't understand why we have been trusted with these two little ones but I suspect it will be because of what they will be able to teach us over the years.  I love being a mom.  What a fulfilling job.

Congratulations!! I'm so glad that everything went well. Did you get an epidural? It doesn't sound like it, so go you!!! I thought I could handle the pain, but I'm a huge whimp!!

Thanks Cami,
I didn't have an epidural this time but I did with Holland. Even if I wanted one they probably wouldn't have given it to me because of how quickly everything went. You're no wimp, trust me.
