Whew. It's hard to get up and go to the gym so early. Some might ask, "Why five in the morning?". My simple answer is this: I have no legitimate excuses at five in the morning. I can't complain about the gym time, having a babysitter, being busy, motivated or tired.
Did I say I have no legitimate excuses at five in the morning? I was tempted to find an excuse this morning. Five AM rolled around and Brooklyn hadn't woken up yet and I still needed to feed her. It was super tough to not just jump back in my cozy, comfy bed and wait for the familiar shout out. I don't know how I did it but I got myself out the door knowing Jaret would take care of our kiddo. I had a fairly quick but sufficient workout and headed back home. Sure enough the lights were on when I pulled into the driveway. Jaret gave Brookly a bite to eat to hold her over and when I got home I fed her and everything worked out just fine.
I had a gym membership for two years but I wasn't happy with the business hours. I had just had Holland and I let her sleep in her car seat while I exercised. I went regularly for a month or two but eventually Holland started becoming mobile and I could just keep her in her car seat. I was paying for something I couldn't use. There were several times that I wanted to work out in the evenings but I would find the doors locked. The gym hours were just not ideal for my schedule. So, I waited the contract out (don't ask me how I felt about being locked into a 2 year contract). I swore I would never do that again.
I figure that at five in the morning I know I'm going to be tired anyway, so I can't use that as an excuse. Other than sleeping, I wont have other things planned. Jaret will be home with the kids. Jaret and I have planned a minimum workout when we go to the gym. Mine is very minimum, 15 minute cardio. It is really hard to get going but once I'm warmed up I usually find the motivation to do a speed that is worth while.
So, what are the results? I think it's too soon to say I've seen any weight shaved...I've only been going for a week and I eat tons of junk. I figure that if I am doing one big thing right it will generalize into other parts of my life...and it already has! I have noticed more motivation to be productive during the day! This morning I was hoping to go back to bed but didn't really get to. I had to feed Brooklyn and soon thereafter Holland woke up. BUT, even though I'm tired when Holland has needed me this morning I have actually been getting up off the couch to be a good mom and help her. Normally, I'm like a bossy slug stuck behind my laptop directing my kid from afar .
So, let's give a shout out for Access Fitness 24 hour gym...we'll see if I can keep it up. My biggest deterrent is getting myself to bed. I'm working on it! Back off!
