Buying a .... something!

Okay all of you home owners out there!  I need your help! Though we have a very limited income we are seriously thinking of investing in a home.  We may have some house options if we buy in Belgrade and very  limited options of buying a townhouse in Bozeman.  What I need to know are the most important features we should look for and be aware of in this process.  I already know a few things that are at the top of my list:

Must Have:
3+ Bedrooms
2+ Bathrooms
2+ Car Garage
Fireplace - It's freezing here, I HAVE to have a fireplace!
Back Yard - Some sort of back yard to grow a garden and have the kids play in.

Strongly Prefer:
Pantry
Two Levels
Open Floor Plan

That's what I've come up with for the moment.  What has been important for you to have in a house?  Feel free to give me some tips and pointers!

I have loved out house but the things I would look for in our next house are:
A basement with an extra family room
A door from the house to the garage
A sprinkler system!!!
No Carpet in the dinning room!!!!!!
A space for a food storage room
and larger master bed room
I may have to give on a few of those things but that's what is important to me.

Good Luck in your search....I wish you could look in UT :(

Buying a house and loving it is tricky. There are so many things that you don't know you wont like until you live in it. But that will happen with any house you buy, even if you think it's your dream house.

Try to find a house that has the important things and just let the rest be what it is. Example, I hate having my laundry room like a hallway between the kitchen and the garage. There's nothing I can really do to change it, but it is not something that would stop me from buying a house that has a lot of great qualities. It's just something I have to deal with. And it's comforting to know that no matter where I move, even if I design my own house, I will eventually find something I don't like about it. So having said that here are the things that I need in a house.

-A family room connected to the kitchen.
-Food storage room.
-A play room for the kids!!! (Weather it's an extra bedroom or a family room in the basement. Somewhere that all toys will belong)
-Door from the house to the garage.
-Adequate storage space.
-Adaquate backyard space. (Enough space for a garden, my children to play and space enough to fit a few family's over for a BBQ.)

The trick is being happy with what you got. I am truly grateful for all I have. I just need to figure out how to make it work for me.

Good luck! I wish I could look at houses with you. I love looking at houses!
