Piercing Ears = Piercing Heart

Jaret convinced me to take Holland in and get her ears pierced today.  He wanted to do it a long time ago but I wasn't up for it.  I don't know if I was really up for it at this point but I decided I would look into it.  I took her over to Claire's in the mall and asked all of my questions.  One thing lead to another and I found myself sitting in the chair holding my little girl on my lap while two employees pierced her ears.  The poor little cry and reaction was heart wrenching to me.  Though she looks pretty cute with her new little earrings I already miss her perfect little lobes.  I felt like a terrible mom for putting Holland through the whole ordeal...and I don't understand why because plenty of parents have their kids ears pierced while they're young.  Some may argue that they should be able to choose whether or not they want it done.  Maybe, but it's too late.  Anyway, I told Jaret that he can suffer watching the kids cry because I'm not taking any more of our kids to get their ears pierced because it's too sad to me.  He and our friend Amanda Stewart joked that it was probably more traumatic for me then for Holland.  Maybe.  She does look pretty cute though.  Her earrings are little flowers.

I love love love little baby girls pierced ears! I am more scared of what you had to go through with the sad crying and hurt heart. My hubby is the opposite of Jaret and out of the blue one day driving back from walmart he goes "you are not piercing London's ears" I was kind of glad to be "told" that I couldn't because of the thought of her screaming. So I just decided to do what Mom did and at 11 years old she will have something to look forward to. In the mean time you can bet that she will be wairing stick-ons. I can't wait to see a picture of Holla's new bling so please please post one soon!!!

I think they are cute too! I just didn't want the work of taking care of them if they get infected. My laziness. Not to mention my ears are so sensitive now that I don't like to wear earnings very much. I find other ways to torture my daughter. I fix her hair. She doesn't care for that!

Was searching for my GF's blog and came across yours. Loved your thoughtful reasoning and description having your dd's ears pierced as an infant.

This was a perfect age to pierce her ears! You were a smart mommy not a mean one for doing it now. You were just following a mommy's intuition that earlier is best when mommy can care for them. Babies and little girls with little pierced ears celebrates their femininity and femaleness. As you said, " ...she does look pretty cute though. Her earrings are little flowers." Not to worry mom, you did the right thing. Our ped said if they cry it is because of being restrained or the noise of the piercing instrument near her ears, not any pain." She'll be fine and look adorable.

Our ped gave me some suggestions for moms having their infant dd's ears pierced as well as for "Care of Newly Pierced Ears."

If you or any moms your thinking about it and want to do it now or would like the "Care for Newly Pierced Ears" tips, then If you or any moms would lke the, then write me an e-mail.
